Car Rental Information

 

Important information for you as chosen to include a rental car in your Longstay or your Holiday Rental with WESTPALMKEYS.

Please notify WESTPALMKEYS your flight number, date and arrival time of your trip in advance.

WESTPALMKEYS has, in order to provide you with the best possible service and conditions, a cooperation agreement with the well-known car rental company EPI Rent-A-Car, Portugal (epirentacar.com). The agreement concerns pick-up and return of rental cars at Faro Airport and Lisbon Airport.

EPI is a family company that since its inception in 1963 is the market leader in Portugal, focusing on customer service and quality at all levels. The cooperation agreement with EPI means that WESTPALMKEYS ensures the highest quality of cars of newer model years, advantageous cost management and attractive opportunities for additional insurance (deductible) for the ones who wish.

The agreement also offers - not least - a customer service and highest level of service with the aim of giving WESTPALMKEY’s guests even better, smoother and more personal responses to both pick-ups and return of the rental car.

WESTPALMKEY’s car rental offer includes car rental, transponder rental (see below) and mandatory insurance, called "CDW" (see below).

The rent applies to 2 drivers and unlimited mileage, so-called "unlimited mileage". The rental car can be run in both Portugal and Spain.

After picking up your rental car at the airport, please call our head office in Tavira (contact details are in your welcome letter) and inform us of your estimated time of arrival.

 

When you arrive

The pickup (and return) of the rental car is done at the EPI service office at Faro airport and Lisbon (please see accurate reception service for each airport below)t. The office is manned around the clock for pickup and return of car. In the Algarve, EPI also has offices in Vilamoura and Monte Gordo.

The car is booked in your surname and voucher is not required.

The rental car is inspected and completed in advance, but you should always make an extra check of the rental car at the outlet. Check the body and tires for scratches, bumps or other visible damage. Check your own car inside. Any deviation from inspections must be reported immediately to EPI staff, ie always before leaving the rental car office.

Checklist for car collection - this must be presented:

• Passport or EU identity card
• Driving license (for all drivers)
• Credit cards, type VISA, MasterCard, etc (not debit card type Electron, Maestro.
  Rule of thumb: embossed name, card number, etc on the front of the card)

In addition to this, you will receive at the end of the contract:

• E-mail address
• Phone
• Home Address
• Address in Portugal

The agreement with EPI means "no deposit". When withdrawing the rental car, no amount is deducted on your card - only one slip will be deducted from your credit card for hire incl. VAT and normal insurance ("CDW").

Car type

Your car is in WESTPALMKEYS’s standard group of 5-door cars. Examples include Fiat Punto, Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta and the like. A big little car that is perfect for the couple. There are also bigger cars with 5 doors and seven seats available. All cars are petrol driven and equipped with AC and manual transmission.

All cars are equipped with a so-called transponder, which simplifies the handling and payment of motorway charges (tolls) in Portugal, such as on the A22 along the Algarve coast as well as the A2 / IP1 between the Algarve and Lisbon, in which also manual payments are requested.

The transponder, which is included in the rent, automatically registers all passes and road charges during the rental period. The cost will be charged and your credit card account will be charged five days after you have returned the rental car.

Insurance

The 'slip' pulled at pickiing-up is a guarantee of possible damage. This slip will be canceled automatically upon return of the car after an inspection. Check that the car is undamaged and that the amount of petrol is the same as at the outlet (i.e. fully recovered - returned full, etc.).

Compulsory insurance - CDW 

This is included in the rent and is valid in Spain. The Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is similar to a Swedish or European traffic insurance, ie it covers all costs of damage to another car in case of self-esteem. For damage to your own car in this case (if any) the deductible is up to 500 €.

The following damage is not covered by the CDW insurance:

• Damage that occurs in the parking lot or elsewhere that cannot be shown to anyone in charge.
• Damage to locking devices carried out by force.
• Damage to wheels, tires, bumper, windows, mirrors (called "parking damage")
• Loss of property stored in the car.
• Loss of car keys.

Extra Insurance - SCDW

This is optional and can be drawn upon pickup of the rental car. Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) means deductible elimination, which gives total compensation in case of an accident. Note that this also applies in Spain.

WESTPALMKEYS has negotiated a special price with EPI for this cost is 90 € for 15 days and 180 € for 30 days. For additional days, the additional cost is 6 € per day. Note that (neither) this insurance covers damage to wheels and tires.

Driving

Please note that all rental car documents must be in the car and may be displayed in case of police check. Please note that both driving licenses and passports (alternatively EU credentials) must be displayed in case of a police check.

In case of an accident, call 112 immediately for notification to the authority / police. A written notification must be made on site, which must then be submitted to the car rental company.

In the case of personal disposition / theft, this is usually covered by the customer's travel insurance.

COLLECTION OF THE RENTAL CAR AT FARO AIRPORT

(At present, the final phase of extensive renovation of Faro airport is scheduled. According to Faro Airport's website (https://en.aeroportodefaro.com/news), these construction nations are expected to be completed in the summer of 2017. This means that the information below will be updated and revised in line. With this happening and the 'new' airport takes shape...)

On arrival at Faro Airport and when you leave the Arrivals Hall, please head on to the parking area and look for the parking P4 (adjacent to the gas station on the roundabout). You will find a representative of EPI with a sign EPI -WESTPALMKEYS who awaits and meets all WESTPALMKEYS guests who arrive with your flight. From there on, EPI will drive you with their shuttle bus to their pick-up office, located 2 short minutes from parking P4. Please see the location map below.

RETURN OF THE RENTAL CAR IN FARO

The rental car will be delivered at the same place where you have picked it up. A quick inspection of the rental car takes place, after which you are driven by shuttle to the departure hall.

 

COLLECTION OF THE RENTAL CAR AT LISBON AIRPORT

Please note that withdrawal of the rental car at Lisbon Airport must be stated in your interest report and confirmed to PT Golf in connection with the acceptance of the quotation.

When you get into the Arrivals Hall, turn right and continue to the signposted Meeting Point where an EPI representative meets with a sign EPI PT Golf. You escort to a shuttle bus and drive to EPI's car rental office to pick up your car.

 

DRIVING DIRECTIONS LISBON TO ALGARVE

When driving from Lisbon Airport to the Algarve it is recommended to take the road over the Vasco da Gama Bridge. See the sketch / directions that you received along with the quotation.

We recommend having coins (euros) available if you would have to pay a bridge fee.

After the Vasco da Gama Bridge, the motorway (A2 / IP21) is the highway to Algarve. At the customs stations, use the file marked with a green V (see picture below). Here the road tax is registered on the transponder and the charge is charged to your credit card account which is charged five days after the rental car is returned.

 

RETURN OF THE RENTAL CAR AT LISBON AIRPORT

At Lisbon Airport, the return of the car takes place at the airport's large parking P1.
